Loyalist Social Stream

Loyalist Social Stream

I was responsible for all back-end functionality and front-end logic for the Loyalist Social Stream plugin on the WordPress platform, which I created using PHP, MySQL, and Javascript/jQuery. I worked with a front end designer/developer to implement the front-end design. This also uses Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram APIs.

This plugin makes a series of API calls to obtain the two most recent posts (within a set of limitations) from each of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, along with other relevant user account details. Posts are limited by the username specified, as well as other criteria specific to each network (eg. Twitter posts do not include retweets). Each post is displayed along with the first photo included in the post, if it exists. If a was not included, the plugin uses one of two pre-defined fallback images.

Posts are displayed in random order on the front end of the website, with logic to ensure no two posts from the same network appear beside each other. Each post includes a text except (trimmed to the first space following a character limit), and links out to the original post.
